Membership in HKN is based primarily on scholastic performance - only the top 25% of the junior class and the top 33% of the senior class are invited to join. If you meet these requirements, you will have received an e-mail and formal letter at the beginning of the semester.
All graduate students are also welcome to join; if you have been in graduate school at UIUC for at least one semester, then you are eligible for membership.
Potential initiates must perform a semester of service work for HKN. Once they pass through this process, the initiation ceremony takes place near the end of the semester.

Once initiated, HKN members will retain lifelong membership. Here at UIUC, we provide additional benefits for those members who wish stay active within the organization after initiation. By meeting the requirements for active membership, HKN members can receive the title of Active Member.
